My office has an older toilet that has often been the source of headaches. Last February I noticed that the tank was leaking a little - it was making a trickling sound because the flapper was not making a complete seal. I put off the trip to the hardware store and the $4.95 it would cost to replace the part. Unfortunately for me, I was making a big mistake. The toilet was clogged over a weekend and the flapper coincidentally completely stopped working. The tank over flowed and ran water into my office for two solid days. I came in Monday morning to find every square inch of carpet soaked and a little river running out the back of the office. The baseboards in one room were destroyed and a portion of the floor was waterlogged. It took a couple of days with a wet/dry vacuum and a great deal of patience to get everything dried out. I'd cleaned deso oil tanks in my time, but this was a far worse clean up job. Next time I will take the time to go and visit the hardware store! |
